At the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, we are
focused on helping everyone achieve their full potential
throughout their lives. The degrees and programs offered
through our departments give you the opportunity to use real
science to help real people.
In addition, SHRS offers three degrees that can be earned at
the school-wide level, and are not affiliated with any one
department or program:

Communication Science & Disorders
One in seven Americans—more than 42 million individuals—has a hearing, speech, language, or swallowing disorder. Our department provides students with the scientific grounding and problem-solving skills to help them.

Emergency Medicine
This program is designed to meet the growing need for the advanced skill levels required in the EMS profession and to prepare students for the technical, clinical, and administrative challenges of a career in EMS and health care.
Health Information Management
Health information management stands at the critical intersection of medicine, business management and information technology. It’s a field that is changing rapidly, as new technology makes information more accessible and new regulations evolve to safeguard individual privacy.

Rehabilitation Science and Technology
Our students work alongside designers, engineers, and clinical professionals—the same people with whom they’ll interact once they enter the workforce. Upon graduation, our students are exceptionally well prepared to pass licensing exams and typically work in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, and research labs.

Sports Medicine and Nutrition
Pittsburgh is a city that takes its sports very seriously, and the University of Pittsburgh provides the academic complement to that passion. Our graduates consistently achieve near-perfect pass rates on licensing and accrediting exams, then go on to work in settings such as research centers, rehabilitation clinics, and long-term care facilities.
