About CSD

Earning a degree in communication science and disorders at the University of Pittsburgh means thoroughly understanding human communication across the life span. Our students actively participate in clinical fieldwork—serving patients from newborns to the elderly—finding new ways to tap the human potential to absorb and express ideas.

We prepare students for careers in universities, hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools and rehabilitation centers, and private practice.

Our relationship with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Center for Assistance Technology, and a premier network of affiliate healthcare centers puts our students in clinical settings where they gain valuable work experience and help patients one on one.

Our doctoral students benefit from our robust research program. Our highly active and internationally renowned academic and clinical faculties assure teaching, training, and mentoring to prepare our students to launch their careers.

“SHRS gave me the opportunity to research and learn across disciplines. I still use those skills every day.”
