Admission Process
Undergraduate
Refer to the Undergraduate Admission page for admission criteria and requirements. International students transferring from a school other than the University of Pittsburgh must apply through the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, following the International Students guidelines.Contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at 412-624-7488 with any questions.
Graduate
Refer to the Graduate/Doctoral Admission page for admission criteria, requirements and application process. Please note that you will need to enter your name in the application as it appears on your passport.
After your application is complete, it is submitted to the Department's Admissions Committee for review. Most admissions decisions are available 6-8 weeks after your application is complete. We request applicants to monitor the status of their application by logging into their application. You will receive an electronic notification once your application is complete. Your decision letter will also be sent through your online application account. Therefore, please retain your online application pin number and password to access all admission communication.
Academic Credential Evaluation
Students applying to the following programs must have their academic credentials evaluated by one of the agencies listed below.
- Coordinated Masters in Dietetics
- MS Health and Rehabilitation Science - Clinical Dietetics & Nutrition, Musculoskeletal and Neuromuscular Physical Therapy, and Wellness & Human Performance concentrations
- MS in Prosthetics and Orthotics

This information must be submitted along with your application. A course by course evaluation is required.
Applicants who submit an evaluation report which includes a verified transcript are not required to submit an additional transcript/marksheets with their application. A final transcript or diploma showing completion of the undergraduate degree must be submitted prior to starting the program.
If an international student has earned an undergraduate or graduate degree in the United States, this evaluation is not required.
*Accepts evaluations from ICD and ECE only.
Verification of English Language Proficiency
An official score report, from ETS, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 on the written test, 213 on the computer-based test or 80 on the internet-based test; is required from all applicants whose native language is not English and/or who have not completed an academic degree from a college or university in the United States where the method of instruction is English. The TOEFL Institution code for the University of Pittsburgh is 2927. IELTS scores are also accepted and must be mailed directly from the test provider to SHRS Office of Admissions, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. Exemption: Applicants who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or 2) citizens of a country where the official language is English.
Submission of GRE Scores
The institution code for the University of Pittsburgh is 2927. Scores may be submitted electronically through ETS or via postal or express mail. Please visit the individual department web pages to determine if your program of interest requires the GRE.
Process of Issuing Visa Documents
Upon receiving an offer of admission, you will be requested to notify the school that you accept the offer of admission. At that time, you will be required to also complete and submit the International Graduate Student Supplemental Form, 2013-2014 which includes a Certification of Financial Responsibility. These documents must be sent via postal or express mail to SHRS Office of Admissions, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. If the financial support information is acceptable to the Office of International Services (OIS), a visa document is then prepared. Financial support documentation can be a bank statement or an official letter of support from a sponsor or a sponsoring agency. The letter should state the amount of money in U.S. dollars that will be provided per year. The Certification of Financial Resources is not required of students who have received a letter offering a full award from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. Please indicate in that section if you are receiving financial aid from the Department.
I-20 documents for fall admission are typically processed between April and May. You will be sent an email when your form is being sent along with a tracking number.
