Clinical Internships
It’s important for students to gain practical experience. Whether pursuing a career in rehabilitation technology or counseling, a rehabilitation science and technology degree from Pitt’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences will include experience at one of many research or clinical settings.
As part of the Master of Science curriculum, students are required to complete a 240-hour internship consisting of clinical or design rotations within community-based organizations, state agencies, hospitals/clinics, or at manufacturers/providers—to name a few.
Students have been placed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital; the Pittsburgh Children’s Rehabilitation Institute; the Community College of Allegheny County; HOPE Network; Accessible Home Automation LLC; Apria Healthcare; the Hiram G. Andrews Rehabilitation Center in Johnstown, Pa.; Permobil Corporate; and Dynamic Controls Ltd. in New Zealand, to name a few.

Summer Internship Program
Students who would like to engage in a variety of educational, clinical, and research training activities in rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology have the opportunity to gain practical experience through the Human Engineering Research Laboratories Undergraduate and Summer Intern Program.
Engineering and clinical opportunities are available in many research areas related to the development and evaluation of new technologies and procedures to improve the mobility and quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
