Academic Positions

 

  • Yaruss is Associate Professor and Director of SLP MA/MS Programs in Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. A Board-Recognized Specialist and Mentor in Fluency Disorders, Yaruss has served on the board of directors for the National Stuttering Association and as Associate Coordinator for the ASHA Special Interest Division for Fluency Disorders.
  • Yaruss’s research examines factors that contribute to the development of stuttering and methods for evaluating stuttering treatment outcomes. He has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and more than 85 other articles, papers, chapters. He is co-author of School-age Stuttering Therapy: A practical guide (forthcoming: Stuttering Therapy Resources, Inc.) and the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering: (Pearson Assessments).
  • Yaruss teaches classes on stuttering and counseling.  He also conducts continuing education workshops around the country to help clinicians feel more comfortable with their ability to work with people who stutter.
