Student Activities

  • Athletic Training Student Association
    The University of Pittsburgh Athletic Training Student Association (ATSA) was founded in 1980 and is a Certified Student Organization as recognized by the Student Government Board of the University of Pittsburgh since 1985.  The mission of this organization is to enhance the education and fellowship of its members, to share ideas and discuss topics of interest, to provide community service through projects in and around the City of Pittsburgh, and to increase public awareness of the ATSA and the profession of athletic training as well
  • Health Information Management Student Association (HIMSA)
    The University of Pittsburgh's Health Information Management Student Association (HIMSA) is an organization designed to enhance the education and fellowship of current and incoming students in the ever growing field of Health Information Management. HIMSA partakes in community service projects and volunteer opportunities throughout the City of Pittsburgh, and conducts fund raising events to support students in attending local and national health information management conferences.   • NSSLHA
    The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. As a complement to the mandatory training experiences, the program maintains an active NSSHLA chapter run by and benefiting students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Rehabilitation Science Student Association (RSSA)
    The Rehabilitation Science Student Association is for students in the undergraduate program in Rehabilitation Science (RS) as well as other undergraduate students interested in the rehabilitation sciences. Its purpose is to increase awareness of the rehabilitation sciences and related professions;  develop and promote participation in volunteer opportunities and community service;  and to  build cohesion, networking and mentorship within the RS student body.
  • SHRS Dean’s Student Advisory Board (SAB)
    The Dean’s Student Advisory Board (SAB) was established by Dean Brubaker to provide an ongoing communication forum between SHRS students and  elected officers of student organizations, and the Dean’s Office. Along with the SHRS Graduate and Professional Student Organization, SAB sponsors a student travel grant program; holds both open meetings and meetings of the SHRS student leadership; supports the SHRS Alumni Association’s  Final’s Week snacks for students; serves as student representatives for school and university events; and sponsors both student and whole school events. Associate Dean Ellen Cohn and Assistant Dean Jean Burgess serve as advisors.
  • SHRS Graduate and Professional Student Organization (GPSO)
    The SHRS operates in tandem with the SHRS Dean’s Student Advisory Board to administer a student travel grant program. SHRS GPSO supports the SHRS Alumni Association’s  Final’s Week snacks for students; and sponsors events that support the needs of graduate students. Associate Dean Ellen Cohn and Assistant Dean Jean Burgess serve as advisors.
  • Student Academy of Audiology (SAA)
    The Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) is the professional student organization dedicated to the advancement of educational and clinical training in the profession of Audiology with emphasis in enhanced patient care. SAA is affiliated with the American Academy of Audiology. The Pitt Chapter of SAA promotes public awareness of Audiology and student involvement in social, community, and educational programs. Information about SAA meetings along with announcements of coming events will be placed in students' mailboxes and posted in the department office.

    The University of Pittsburgh Student Occupational Therapy Association (UPSOTA) is a group of students who are pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. Members function to promote occupational therapy as a profession within the University of Pittsburgh, the local community, and the state of Pennsylvania. UPSOTA members raise funds for activities such as their attendance at state and national occupational therapy conferences, social events that enhance the students' educational experiences, and community service.

  •  Pi Theta Epsilon  
    (PTE): Pi Theta Epsilon is the national honor society of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF). PTE was developed as a specialized honor society for occupational therapy students and alumni. This society recognizes and encourages superior scholarship among students enrolled in professional entry-level programs at accredited schools across the United States.
