Tim Marker is an academic advisor in the SHRS Center for Academic Advising and Student Success. Marker previously served as an academic advisor in the Interdisciplinary Studies program (IDS) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), helping IDS students to craft their own unique undergraduate curriculum of study. Prior to this role, he served VCU as graduate senior academic advisor in the VCU Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs and as a first year undergraduate undeclared advisor in VCU Student Success. Marker also served as an academic advisor in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. He earned his master’s degree in college counseling and student development from St. Cloud State University and holds a bachelor's degree in history from Northern Michigan University. Through his various roles, Marker brings a unique and interdisciplinary approach to advising by combining practices in person-centered counseling with a focus on fostering self-authorship, helping to guide students towards writing their own narrative of how they will accomplish their educational and professional goals.
