Pamela Toto is an occupational therapist with expertise in gerontology. Her clinical, teaching and research interests focus on the implementation of client-centered interventions in “real world” settings to promote independence, participation and healthy aging in older adults. Toto's work incorporates principles of behavioral change including goal-setting and readiness for change. Specific topics of expertise and interest including frailty, physical activity, falls prevention and environmental modification.

Toto has been instrumental in the development of Pitt's Healthy Home Lab, a living laboratory in the University’s Oakland neighborhood where researchers are designing and testing real-world, evidence-based solutions that will support community living among aging adults, people with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. In March 2023, she was named its director and will oversee the research, education and service activities and connect the lab’s activities to the many organizations dedicated to supporting successful aging in place.

In addition, Toto is the director of the Doctor of Clinical Science in Occupational Therapy program and the post-professional Advanced Practice Certificate in Implementation of Evidence in Clinical Practice.
