Trainers:
Lynn Fitzgerald, DPT, MEd, is the Director of Clinical Education for the DPT Program at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her PT Degree in 1981, her MEd in educational research methodology in 2005, and her tDPT in 2014. Her scholarly interests include clinical evaluation and measurement, cost-effectiveness, and the development of innovative clinical education models. Her clinical interest is in the area of early intervention. She has been a Credentialed Clinical Education Trainer since 2000 and an Advanced Credentialed Clinical Trainer since 2005.
Ralph R. Utzman, PT, MPH, PhD, is Professor and Director of Clinical Education at West Virginia University's Division of Physical Therapy. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical therapy and a master of public health from WVU, and a PhD in Health Related Sciences/Physical Therapy track at the MCV Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been a credentialed trainer for CCIP Level 1 course since 1998 and the Level 2 course since 2010. He currently serves on the APTA's CCIP Advisory Workgroup.
Successful completion of the course provides CIs with 1.7 CEUs and the APTA CCIP Level 2 credential. Clinicians from other health care professions who complete CCIP Level 2 are eligible to receive 1.3 CEUS, but would not be awarded the Level 2 CI Credential.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 2 (CCIP Level 2) is the successor to APTA's former Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (ACCIP). This voluntary program is designed for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who have successfully completed the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Level 1 Program (CCIP Level 1), and want to further develop their clinical teaching skills and construct a clinical curriculum. The unique philosophy and design of CCIP Level 2 both applies and goes beyond the concepts of the structured learning environment of CCIP Level 1 to enable clinical educators to achieve the best outcomes for student learning.
After the conclusion of the CCIP Level 2 training, the participant will be able to:
--Discuss the benefits and key components of a clinical curriculum
--Advance clinical teaching concepts learned in CCIP Level 1 as applied to the novice-mastery clinical practice continuum
--Integrate professionalism in a clinical curriculum that promotes the guiding principles to achieve the Vision for the Physical Therapy Profession and the core values
--Diagnose and foster a student's clinical reasoning
--Outline a clinical curriculum to provide key learning experiences critical to patient and client management in the student's practice upon graduation and licensure
--Integrate interprofessional education and collaborative practice into a clinical curriculum
--Integrate advocacy into a clinical curriculum
OUTCOME:

REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for the credentialing, through this course, you must:
1. Complete the registration online by the deadline.
2. Submit a participant dossier and signed agreement of participation, which will be emailed to you on the receipt of registration.
3. Attend each session of the program in its entirety and complete pre-course assignments.
4. The course is intended for physical therapists and physical therapy assistants in a clinical setting who have successfully completed the Level 1 Course and who have supervised and mentored at least one student.
Fee for the course will be covered for University of Pittsburgh clinical instructors by the Department of Physical Therapy. Please contact Debra Utterback if you are not a University of Pittsburgh Clinical Instructor regarding the fee. The fee will cover the cost of the CI Participant Manual, CI Credential and CEU Certificates (1.7).
*Important note about CEUs: Continuing education requirements vary by discipline, association, and state. It is the responsibility of licensees to follow rules and regulations related to the maintenance of licensure and certifications in their states and organizations. Be sure to visit the requirements of your certification or license if you plan to use this course towards renewal.
If your state or agency requires pre-approval from an accrediting board, you can request the process for obtaining CEU's as an individual participant with that association. Once enrolled in the course you will have access to the most common documents that are required for CEU approval to assist with this process.
