2. How has your career progressed since you graduated from the MSRT program?
I have started seeing more seating and mobility patients and was tasked to educate an enhanced assistive technology and seating and mobility related knowledge for the occupational therapists in the hospital. I am also implementing outcome measures for the provision of seating and mobility related cases.
3. In your current employment, what are your duties and responsibilities?
I am both an inpatient and outpatient occupational therapist. As an inpatient occupational therapist, I assist with the rehabilitation, provision of caregiver training, and discharge planning for hospitalized patients. As an outpatient therapist, I cover the seating and mobility clinic where I evaluate and fit various clients with physical disabilities with personal mobility seating and positioning systems. I also provide powered mobility device training to ensure that the clients have the adequate skills required to operate the device safely in the community. I also conduct home visits to these clients.
4. Is there any information you would like to share, or any advice you would like to offer current and future MSRT students?
Go for the RESNA ATP exam and participate in all the seating and mobility conference while you are a student! They are great learning opportunities. For those with only clinical background, learn from the engineers!
