Supporters of the historic Freedom House Ambulance Service at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking to reignite the story of these pioneering Black paramedics.
The program will be the first at a research-intensive public university in the U.S. and the only one in Pennsylvania. It will focus on evidence-based training for spine and musculoskeletal conditions and prepare students to work within interprofessional teams.
Developed by Eric Meyer in collaboration with Emergency Medicine Professor Thomas Platt and Adjunct Professor Sheila Roth, the Center for Emergency Responder Wellness employs evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral interventions that have been culturally adapted to meet the unique needs of first responders.
