Biography

Emily Antes joined the Communication Science and Disorders PhD program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2026 under the mentorship of Associate Professor Hari Bharadwaj. As an audiologist, Antes brings a clinical perspective to her research and aims to bridge auditory neuroscience and clinical practice to improve outcomes for individuals with hearing loss. Her research focuses on understanding individual differences in hearing, particularly how hearing loss alters suprathreshold coding in the presence of distorted tonotopy. Her long-term research goal is to utilize individualized profiles of hearing and suprathreshold deficits to develop targeted treatments for hearing loss, such as hearing aid signal-processing strategies tailored to specific patterns of dysfunction. Following her PhD, Antes plans to pursue an academic career as a faculty member and translational auditory neuroscientist. She aims to advance individualized approaches to hearing health care while teaching and mentoring future researchers and clinicians.
