Student Organizations

SHRS Student Advisory Board

Overview

The SAB is the central organization representing SHRS students. It addresses their needs, concerns, and oversees the activities related to the rehabilitation and health sciences. The board aims to bridge knowledge gaps, foster academic growth and fortify professional and social bonds within the SHRS community.

Historically a graduate student organization, the SHRS SAB expanded in 2026 through a merger with the Interprofessional Studies Student Group (ISSG) and the PhD Student Organization, two groups that had previously operated independently. As separate entities, each worked hard to serve its members but found it increasingly difficult to sustain momentum, with students feeling siloed and efforts often overlapping. Coming together under one unified board was a student-driven decision rooted in a shared goal: to better serve the entire SHRS community. This merger also naturally opened the door to welcoming undergraduate students as emerging allied health leaders.

We believe leadership is a skill best cultivated early, and the SAB is an ideal environment to do just that. Undergraduate SHRS students are encouraged to engage with the SAB to build leadership skills, gain exposure to professional advocacy, and connect with peers and mentors across disciplines. Undergraduate members will be actively supported through mentorship and guidance from graduate student board members, with opportunities to grow into greater responsibility over time.

Mission

The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) Student Advisory Board (SAB) is the unified voice of its students. We advocate for student needs, strengthen the bridge between students and school leadership, and foster a culture of interprofessional education alongside school faculty and the Center for Interprofessional Studies. Through mentorship, transparent communications, and inclusive programming, we support undergraduate and graduate students alike, including our doctoral community. We aim to ensure every SHRS student has the resources and connections to thrive academically, professionally, and personally, and to grow into the next generation of allied health leaders.

Vision

A thriving, connected SHRS community where every student, across every discipline and stage of their journey, is empowered to lead, collaborate, and make a meaningful impact in the health and rehabilitation sciences.
