Assistant Professor Kelsey Voltz-Poremba’s Beyond the Bell project continues to move forward through the Pitt SEED 2.0 funding phase to be awarded $75,000 in support. The project, which is moving on since the last update in the spring, involves Voltz-Poremba’s collaboration with Assistant Professor Carl Wang-Erickson from Pitt’s Math Department and seeks to develop the Pitt “ACE” (Advancing Community Engagement) Program. The program's goal is to help build capacity among faculty and staff to participate in community-engaged projects. As part of the program, Voltz-Poremba will expand the existing Beyond the Bell Afterschool program currently offered at the SHRS Wellness Pavilion in the Homewood section of the city. During the initial portion of the funding process, Voltz-Poremba created a short video about the Beyond the Bell program. The current phase of the SEED funding has 10 projects left competing for a total of up to $500,000 in funding.

Voltz-Poremba was also recently featured in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article and in the University of Pittsburgh’s weekly Pittwire newsletter.
