Susan L. Whitney re-elected to serve as the Vice President of the International Neurologic Physiotherapy Association (INPA)

Professor Susan L. Whitney from the Department of Physical Therapy was recently re-elected to serve as the vice president of the International Neurologic Physiotherapy Association (INPA), a subgroup of World Physiotherapy based in the United Kingdom. She will serve a three-year term and as part of her duties will be co-planning an international virtual neurologic meeting that will involve at least 25 world experts in stroke, Parkinson’s disease, vestibular disorders and spinal cord injury and another 20 people to plan the meeting that will be held in fall 2024. As vice president, she works with the practice, education, webinar and special interest group teams to improve neurologic physical therapy practice globally.

The Neuroscience networking meeting was organized by INPA President Judith Deutsch and Vice President Whitney. There was a talented group of neuro physiotherapists present from around the world in Dubai who participated in lively discussions.

Whitney Appointed to International Advisory Board for QU Health at Qatar University

Whitney was recently appointed to serve on the International Advisory Board (IAB) for QU Health at Qatar University. The members of the advisory board are local, regional and international experts with a wealth of experience in the health sector and in academic health systems. The group is composed of health care providers from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Alberta, the University of Arizona, MD Anderson in Houston, Denmark and Belgium.  

IAB members are expected to provide insights and guidance to QU Health on key strategic activities and initiatives, enriching both its processes and outcomes and ensuring that the university health system is a key player in health and medical education in Qatar. QU Health comprises the colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Dental Medicine, and Nursing under one umbrella. Whitney will be involved in one face-to-face meeting annually and quarterly discussions virtually.

At QU Health, they are working to provide interprofessional integration to promote innovative education and impactful research. Interdisciplinary education is a driving force within Pitt’s Schools of the Health Sciences under the direction of Senior Vice Chancellor Anantha Shekhar. In the Department of Physical Therapy, Associate Professor Vicky Hornyak was recently appointed as director of Interprofessional Practice and Education. Her role is to facilitate interprofessional interactions in the Department of Physical Therapy and she will advise Whitney on initiatives within the department and the health sciences as she assumes her role as an advisor in the Middle East.
