SHRS Classroom Technology Update (Fall Term 2020)

  • Beginning Fall Term 2020, please direct all classroom technology issues to the PITT IT Helpdesk. The 24/7 IT Help Desk will be on call and available during all instruction hours for on-site support in the event of a technical issue or equipment malfunction.
  • Flex@SHRS incorporates the existing technology available in SHRS Classrooms to accomandate both in-person and remote instructors and students.
    • SHRS Classrooms are scheduled through our own Student Services Team in the SHRS Dean's Office.
    • Flex@PITT equipment is only available in classrooms scheduled through the Office of the University Registrar.
  • Virtual PITT Computer Lab and Virtual SHRS Computer Lab are now available to all faculty and students.
  • Zoom has been installed on all SHRS classroom computers at Forbes Tower, Bakery Square, Bridgeside Point and the Murdoch Building.
  • All SHRS classrooms include webcam/mic mounted to a tripod.
    • Avaya Huddle Cameras with intergrated microphones have been added to all SHRS classrooms. These cameras include the following features:
      • High quality 4K sensor video source with HD 1080p 30 frames per second (fps)
      • 8x digital zoom and an optimal horizontal field of view for video conferencing
      • Intergrated microphones array with omnidirectional pickup and a 3m radius with 360° coverage
    • Tripods can be moved to view instructor and/or demonstrations but should be in close proximity to instructor when lecturing for best audio quality
    • Instructors should repeat all questions from onsite attendees, for benefit of remote viewers and allocate time to address remote students/questions
  • Instructors should modify their Canvas course to enable Zoom and Panopto add-ins. Once Zoom is integrated into Canvas, recordings will automatically be accessible to the Canvas Course for student viewing.
  • Use Canvas as the central teaching hub for any instructional implementation.
    • By uploading all course content on Canvas, you can insure the most equitable experience for all students.
    • All data, curriculum information and assignments are available online.
    • Access all Course instances and Class Calendars
  • NOTE: Given the quality of a live classroom video demonstration, it is recommended that instructors prerecord skill demonstrations and upload to Panopto.
  • Please review the SHRS IT Classroom Technology "Train the Trainers Sessions" Recordings.
